Interior

Check the following:

 

Operation of the electric mirrors.
With the ignition turned on, make sure that both mirrors move in all of their axes.

Operation of the electric windows.

Ensure that all of the electric open and close fully.

Operation of the electric sunroof With the ignition turned on, ensure that the sunroof tilts and slides fully.

Operation of the central locking From inside the car with the doors closed, depress the door lock knob on the driver's door and ensure that all of the doors can be locked and unlocked.

Operation if the radio and, if applicable, CD player. Ensure that the ICE in the car functions correctly. UK specification cars had two different types of entertainment system fitted depending on the build number. UK cars up to number 0800 had the Blaupunkt Memphis and CDP09 combination fitted (a head unit and single DIN CD player in the dashboard), the CD players are prone to failure and will not accept a CD cartridge. UK cars from number 0800 had the Grundig SC4870RDS and MCD 10 fitted (a head unit and boot-mounted 10-disc CD player), FM reception on the head unit can be degraded or non-existent.

European specification cars all had the SC804 head unit fitted without a CD player, no problems with these units are currently known by the author.

Operation of the fan and air-conditioning. Ensure that the internal heater fan work as designed at the five different settings. The air-conditioning cooling switch should be turned on, if it the indicator does not illuminate the air-conditioning is not functioning.

Operation of the front heated seats. Switch each of the heated seats on and ensure that the seat base warms.

Operation of the interior lighting and switch illumination. Ensure the courtesy lights work correctly and that the map reading alights and vanity lights work. Switch the side lights on a look at the switch illumination and instrument illumination is all OK, replacements can be awkward and/or expensive.

Operation of the instruments. With the car running, make sure that all of the gauges work as designed.

Activation of the warning lights. The car has a number of warning lights on the instruments, ensure that all of these light when the ignition is on and extinguish when the engine is running.

Exterior

Check the following:

Operation of the external lights. Check that all of the exterior lighting is working correctly, including side lights, head lights, full beam (including pencil beam), brake lights, indicators, reversing lights and fog lights.

Operation of the central locking From outside the car, lock the car with the key at the driver's door, passenger's door and boot ensuring that the central locking works correctly. Leave one of the windows open and lock the car from the driver's door by turning the key to 45°, the window should rise until you release the key.

Security

All UK specification cars were fitted with the Vauxhall/Opel anti-theft system, this was an optional extra on European models. This system is activated by deadlocking the car. There are no real tests that you can perform on this.

If after-market security or tracking devices are installed, ensure that all of the relevant installation and operation documents are available.
