Vehicle Identity

VIN tag

One of the most important things to check when buying any car (especially a high value one) is it's identity.

Things to check

i) The chassis number on the log book against the VIN plate under the bonnet and under the carpet next to the driver's seat (RHD cars) or the passenger's seat (LHD cars).
-
ii) If possible check the engine number on the log book against the 4-digit number painted on the engine block behind the dip stick (this number may not be visible). The last 4 digits on the log book engine number should correspond to the number on the block.
-
iii) Check for a stamped service book to prove a full service history. At the very least you will need to see receipts for parts for any work carried out.
-
iv) Check whether the driver's literature is with the car.
-

If you have been looking at a car and would like to check the details against the Lotus Carlton/Omega register to confirm it's identity please enter as much detail in the form below and I will confirm the details if they are correct. I will not provide any details back to you other than to confirm the validity of the supplied information. To do otherwise would be security risk.
